Stories From Our Multigenerational Dinner

Adding The Next Generation

Our last multigenerational dinner was an incredible evening of dinner, fellowship, and rich conversation. Over 65 women ages 10-their 60's joined together to encourage and equip.

This time we added a group of girls from 4th-8th grades, and they were lead in conversation by the group of girls in their 20's. The conversation was led by questions that the younger girls submitted, but the richness of the conversation came in the responses that the older girls gave. When the evening was over the younger girls were given a journal that had been written in by some of the girls in their 20's.

While this went on in one part of the house, there were two other groups of women ages 20-60's engaged in conversation, guided similarly by questions that the moms had submitted. The richness of the conversation came from the responses with perspectives from each generation in the group.

Hear From Skye Weeden as she talks about her experience on this night:

“Multi-generational dinners - I love them! With Psalm 89:1 Ministries, this means females in various stages of life come together to eat, pray and talk about how to live life according to His Word, and how to do that in the fullness of how God created each of us to be. In February, about 65 of us gathered together in a home to do just that...visit with one another about how to navigate life in ways that honor and glorify Him. There were grammar age girls, college girls, millennials, moms, and grandmothers. (I'm one of these :) It was amazing to look around and see so many stages and facets of life represented. The meal was delicious, the setting was welcoming and cozy, and the conversations were heartfelt, sincere and authentic. Younger generations asking older generations questions about a variety of topics; older generations sharing how God has worked in their lives, and some of the very valuable lessons they’ve learned along the way from Him. Women and girls speaking from their hearts, encouraging one another, comforting each other, laughing together and praying together. Another beautiful component was long time friends sharing in this together, as well as seeing new friendships being formed. Simply amazing. But the best part? The best part was truly feeling God’s presence there and knowing He was at work. It was undeniable. I cannot wait for the next multi-generational dinner. It does my soul much good.” Skye Weeden

Hear From Ann and Ashley, two 4th graders, as they talk about their experience:

From Ann:

I thought that all the people that were there had a friendship that was very strong and that they trusted each other with their worries and feelings.i liked the happiness that filled the room when the girls were in it.i thought the funniest question was, ‘what do you do if your crush is 30 yrs old?’. Callyanne wrote in my journal and she basically wrote that I'm very loyal, smart, and confident. The body of Christ is used in ephesians 4:11-12. ‘And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of christ.’ I think it means that he gave the people in our lives to equip people with God's word when we need it most. We are the body of christ. When all the parts of the body are working properly, it builds itself up in love.

From Ashley:

I loved this experience!  The girls are awesome and they know a lot about each other.  The older girls understand us and also knew a lot about what was happening in our lives because they had been through it before.  They are such good examples for us. Lots of deep questions were asked how to handle gossip and crushes, along with pretty light ones.

I received a journal with a sweet note from my sister’s teacher.  She said, “I love watching your heart for others, and the joy you fill the room with.  You’re unique, confident and secure in yourself.” Those words make me feel so loved!
